Agree that most people are happy with someone they are, well happy with. The question though is do many happily married women fantasise about the pool man. So advertising that gives them a bit of the pool man might be what they want.
That holiday in Queensland ad with lots of bikini clad women works for me, even though I know that they aren't the type of woman that really interests me, as well as being a reasonable age difference.
Following on from what Ken said, I think the question then, for advertisers, becomes one of whether they continue catering to people's fantasies (for example, the pool man) or mirroring realities (by showing monogamous relationships).
The interesting thing is that for some people, the latter may seem a very backward approach, despite the correlation between monogamous sex and happiness that Adam noted.
Thanks guys for the comments, and especially what Ken said. I agree with you Ken, a bit of fantasy never hut - just nice to keep it in perspective.
Someone also suggested the Honda Odessy ad - which is spot on. Parents start making out in front seats with the kids in teh back seat looking on - horrified.

I think every person in the world fantasizes with people other that their partners. Being the pool boy, a girl or guy in the bar, a guy or girl form work, etc.

K-Y has done some nice ads premised on monogamous relationships that are not monotonous--thanks in part to K-Y, of course.
